grown up root beer floats and mardi gras holiday

Y'all...I am one class away from Mardi Gras holiday. One class! 50 minutes of Legal Ethics stand between me and five whole, glorious, fabulous days off! And amen to that, I say. We aren't huge partiers (plus I have the most insane amount of school work), but we do have plans to join in the festivities at some point this weekend. We're thinking about attending the Sunday parades, maybe tracking down a piece of this, and probably (definitely) partaking in a little festive cocktailing.

Now, there are very few cocktails that I really enjoy. I am kind of a little bit picky. I do like wine a lot, and I like Blue Moon (but that is it in terms of beer. because...other beer is gross, you know?). I also really like tequila-based drinks. But...no vodka, no rum, no gin. And no whisky....unless that whisky happens to be mixed with lots of root beer and vanilla ice cream. Because what's not to love about that?

These grown-up root beer floats are delicious. There is just enough alcohol to give them a little pop, but not too much to overwhelm the traditional flavor. Plus they are the perfect treat for Carnival season. A little bit childish and a whole lot decadent, with just a twist of naughtiness...kind of like Mardi Gras itself.

Adult Root Beer Floats for 2

2 Abita root beers (or whatever kind is your fave)
Blue Bell homemade vanilla (or your preference)
2 shots of whisky

You know how this goes. Scoop yourself some vanilla ice cream into a pretty glass. Top with one shot of whisky (or more, if you're feeling sassy). Then pour that root beer over everything. Enjoy with a stripe-y straw, and a parade (or four).

  1. Oh my goodness - LOVE the recipe. I'll be making that for myself and wishing I was at the parades :) Have a blast these next few days!
